My sister and I even have many of the same interests, which includes watching detective shows. We always loved pretending to be FBI agents when our parents weren’t home or someone was at the door. I always ask her about certain classes or teachers because she already had them. And because she’s my sister, she would always help me with my homework. Academically, she’s a great role model, which makes her the best tutor I could ever ask for. But in the real world, she makes mistakes, just like everyone else; and I learn from them; now I know to NEVER buy a motor scooter. In a way, older sisters are like prototypes; they go through everything first so you know exactly what to do. Now that we’ve both gotten older, I have realized that sisters can be somewhat of a pain. I can remember all the times my sister has manipulated, and made fun of me as we were growing up. But then again, whose sibling hasn’t done that to them? In my family, academics are really important. Exhibit A: my sister. Everyone knows what a genius she is. That’s great and all, but now I have to live under her shadow. I will always be compared to her just because she’s my sister. On top of all that, my sister is a show-off. Whether she’s making cookies or taking an AP test, she must do better than everyone else AND rub it in their face. This â€Å"trait† of hers has made me a shy person, always able to entertain myself. But on the up side, it has also made me the kind and humble person I am today. For the few months that my sister was applying to college, I began to hate her. Everything was about her†¦Susie this, Susie that. She had my parents working on financial aid forms for weeks! So I couldn’t wait till the day we finally moved her in to her dorm. But only after a few weeks of her being gone did I realize the sad part of her going to college; I don’t have my best friend with me wherever I go. For all the bad memories I have of my sister, there are twice as many good ones, filled with jokes, laughs, and fun times. Having a sister shapes who you are as a person. My showy and driven sister has made me tolerant and humble. When you have a sister you get along with, it’s hard to find a friend that can fill that void. Both the patient and the nurses acknowledged that without the brain monitoring system, the patient might not have survived (Ledwith, Bloom, Maloney-Wilensky, Coyle Polomano, 2010) Monitoring provides essential information on the effect of various interventions in patients. Early monitoring of vital parameters in patients faced with traumatic brain injury, helps in providing useful clinical information. Brain tissue oxygen monitoring provides information on the response of intervention and its success. The LICOX probe has been found to under-read the temperature by approximately 0.5-0.8 degrees Celsius. Thus, caution should be taken if the temperature measured by the LICOX PMO is used to guide the decisions on treatment strategies to be used. Scientists are still debating on where the PbtO2 should be placed. It has been found that placement at different positions accompanies various advantages and disadvantages. For instance, in assessing regional oxygenation and swelling, placement in the penumbra of the injury is recommended. At the other end of the spectrum, there are many and varied merits to the concept of easily accessible up-to-date technology. Perhaps most importantly, it assists people to carry out their work faster. In my own experience, I found that technological appliances such as computer and mobile phone have assisted me a great deal in my occupation. As an accountant, I usually liaise with my clients to discuss about their account issues. Sometimes, problems can be solved via only a phone call. In addition, the aid of computer has reduced amount of my work significantly. At the end of the day, the positives effects of using digital technology and its convenience and efficiency for most people are more convincing than the negative aspects. If digital technology were never invented, our lives would be never wonderful as they should be. The word â€Å"hippie† probably derives from the word â€Å"hip.† The term â€Å"hipster† was created by jazz musician Harry Gibson in 1940, in his stage name â€Å"Harry the Hipster.† During the 40s and 50s, â€Å"hipster† was used to describe jazz musicians; in 1945, Gibson was called a â€Å"hippie† during a radio show, but it was probably a derivation of Gibson’s stage name. The term was used by journalists in the mid-1960s to refer to a new group of beatniks in San Francisco . The New York Times, for example, changed the spelling from â€Å"hippy,† which described a kind of fashion, to â€Å"hippie.† Hippies also have roots in the beatniks, a group of post-WWII writers, including Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who inspired what came to be called the Beat Generation. Central to the beatniks was experimentation with drugs and alternative forms of sexuality, an interest in Eastern religion, a rejection of materialism, non-conformity, and spontaneous creativity. As the beatnik movement expanded, it moved from New York City to San Francisco, where it was incorporated into the hippie movement. Hippie culture spread throughout the world through rock music, folk, blues, and psychedelic rock, as well as through literature, drama, fashion, film, rock concert posters, and album covers.
